I've recently begun enjoying this hobby. The parallels to a John Le Carre
or Tom Clancy novel are phenomenal: planting secret messages, learning to
pick up a "drop box" without alerting the surrounding locals...

Oh yeah, sneaking around in the woods. Plotting in the middle of the
night. Eyeballing the people passed on the trail...are they????...did
they see???? The Fly Doc's a John Le Carre fan & I've enjoyed my share
of Tom Clancy (as well as others). How many other boxers are mystery
buffs I wonder? :-))

I've thought the same thing. I also keep an eye out for other 'agents' in the areas where I know 'drop boxes' are at.

Ron and I both love mysteries and true crime novels, I just finished "The
Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown (I think that's his name), now he has it. Wow,
that's treasure hunt! I highly recommend it.

The secrecy of letterboxing definitely intrigues me. I got into
letterboxing when I googled for information on hiking in Eaton Canyon
(Altadena, CA) and stumbled upon a letterboxing site listing the
Eaton Canyon Letterbox. I read the clues and realized I'd hiked past
this hiding spot a number of times. To me, the idea that there was a
secret to find hidden within a few feet of where I'd been blindly
walking was just too much of a thrill. That was in February '03, and
I'm now at P5 F48. Bob-Baloo, please plant some more Los Angeles
area letterboxes and I'll do the same!
